An eagle for the nature-loving kid
The eagle is our biggest critter, with a fierce look kids love to exaggerate. Painting it is the party activity, and the finished eagle is the favour, so you skip both the craft planning and the party bags.
It has magnets in the head and at the back, so it sticks to the fridge, a magnetic board or a locker.
Eagle and bird painting ideas
The eagle doesn't have to stay an eagle:
- A bald eagle: dark body, white head, yellow beak.
- A native bird: a kererū, tūī or kea colour scheme.
- A phoenix in reds, oranges and gold.
- A kārearea (NZ falcon): brown back, streaky chest, yellow feet.
Fit it into the day
Paint first, then head outside for a nature walk, scavenger hunt or games while the eagles dry. Bring them out again at home time.
You can mix designs in one pack: a parrot for the kid who wants every colour, caterpillars and bees for a garden corner of the theme, and dinosaurs for the explorers.
Questions parents ask
- How much does it cost?
- It depends on how many critters you choose (minimum 6) and whether you add paint marker sets or kids' mess kits. Every pack ships free within New Zealand, and the builder shows the total as you go. See prices and build your pack →
- What age is it suitable for?
- Ages 6 and up, with an adult supervising. The critters contain magnets and small parts, so keep them away from younger siblings.
- What should the kids paint with?
- Acrylic paint markers. They grip the smooth plastic and there are no brushes or water pots to manage. Ordinary felt-tips and washable markers smudge and won't stick. Our marker sets have 8 colours, and one set covers about 3 kids.
